So I end of giving lots of cards each year, namely handmade DIY birthday cards, but there is one card I make that has to be the most special of all. My Mom’s birthday is in the summer, and by spring, I am always on the lookout for the best birthday card to make for Mom. Usually, I look for a creative idea with lots of handmade details, one she is sure to appreciate and be able to proudly display so all her friends can see it. This adorable gift box card was my top pick to make for my mother, and it did not disappoint. I have to admit, mine actually turned out cuter than the picture. I used a plaid paper and red ribbon, and it was so colorful and cute, I wanted to keep it for myself. How great would be to have a dear friend who will greet us like this on the special occasion of our birthday? We all worry about how the whims of fortune will impact us on a personal level. We universally admire those who seem to be the luckiest among us, those for whom the dice always seem to roll the highest numbers, the constant recipients of “happy accidents.” Luck is very important in how we see our world. So it makes perfect sense to wish our best friend the very best luck on their birthday. Since our birthdays are the special anniversary of our entry into the world, what better day to receive the collective blessings of the universe? Write "Happy Birthday!" Once you have selected your paper and your card format, it's time to get started on creating your simple birthday card. You can use a thick marker or a combination of different colors to write, "Happy Birthday!" on the front of your card. If you prefer not to hand write it, you can also print the words using a word processor and cut them out for your card, or use the printed piece of paper as your template.
I love to cook and decided that I need a recipe card box out of sheer hatred for the add-filled, biographical oubliettes that food websites have become. I'm not using microsoft word, so i didnt even bother trying to download the templates, but I just set the page format to center on the measurements of the cards and everything printed predictably. My printer had no trouble with the card stock and I didn't even have to change the settings, which is great because I totally forgot to check that.
I wish you luck and happiness on this special day of your life. We all want the best of luck for those we love. This image speaks to me of how we move together down the stream of our lives, like boats, sometimes moving in small fleets, sometimes tying off to a pier together to rest in the safety of a shared harbor. Life can be that: a river, with its own streams, currents, and eddies. We wish the best of luck to our best friends, because we travel with them down that river, and share in that luck. Since good fortune leads to happiness, we wish both luck AND happiness to our best friend on their special day.
My granddaughter starts kindergarten this year and she has sight words she'll need to know. We made her a set of flash cards with all 300 of her sight words for the year. I needed to get them done and shipped off so she could get a head start and they were here before I knew it. Easy to use, did a mail merge and printed them all out with minor corrections, mostly of the mea culpa variety.
Writing tip: Ages 16, 18, 21, 30, 40, 50, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95 and 100 are traditionally considered milestones. Cards specific to these birthdays will feature the age number prominently in their design, but you can make any card a milestone card (or any birthday a milestone birthday) by writing that shiny new age number somewhere in your personal message.
